A. Background

UNITAR provides innovative learning solutions to individuals, organizations and institutions to enhance global decision-making and support country-level action for shaping a better future. The Institute’s Green Development and Climate Change Programme Unit (GCP) develops the capacities of individuals and training institutions in developing countries to implement the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and to advance green and climate resilient development. It offers a range of services, including executive training, institutional capacity development, support for national learning strategies, learning methodology development, and knowledge-sharing. Activities are carried out through partnerships with other UN organizations, bilateral development partners, as well as leading learning institutions and think tanks.

As a founding member of the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE), together with UNEP, ILO, UNIDO, and UNDP, the work of UNITAR in the area of green economy focuses on developing global learning products, designing and delivering green economy learning action in PAGE partner countries, and strengthening capacities of education and training institutions. Under PAGE, UNITAR together with UNEP has developed a package of teaching materials for a semester-long course on inclusive green economy (IGE) modelling.

The University of Indonesia through its School of Environmental Sciences has indicated interest in piloting the semester-long course on inclusive green economy (IGE) modelling. The target audience will be multidisciplinary students and actors from academia. The course will be in alignment and building synergies with other initiatives led by the Government of Indonesia through the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas. the piloting of the semester-long course on inclusive green economy (IGE) modelling at the University of Indonesia, involving the President University (a private University) and Universitas Sriwijaya (a regional University).

Environment Institute in collaboration with Indonesia Expert Network on Climate Change and Forestry (APIK Indonesia Network), the School of Environmental Science – University of Indonesia, President University, and Universitas Sriwijaya will convene the Launching Webinar of IGEM Course Indonesia. The piloting IGEM Course will be conducted in 12 sessions starts from September – December 2021.

B. Objectives

The objectives of the Launching Webinar of the IGEM Course are as follow:

  • To disseminate the development of global learning products, designing and delivering green economy learning action under the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE).
  • To launch and public sharing the piloting of the semester-long course on Inclusive Green Economy Modelling (IGEM) at the University of Indonesia, involving the President University (a private University) and Universitas Sriwijaya (a regional University).
  • To share university’s lessons learned in the implementation of systems thinking for developing IGE and Low Carbon Development models in Indonesia.

C. Schedule

The event will be held virtually using the Zoom Platform on Tuesday , September 21, 2021, at 13.00-15.00 Jakarta time (GMT+7) , with a maximum capacity of 500 participants and will be broadcasted live through the Environment Institute’s YouTube Channel. Online registration will be opened and available on www.enviro.or.id. The webinar will invite distinguished speakers especially policymakers from PAGE and BAPPENAS, also IGEM Course instructors. Public participants are welcome to register and free of charge including e-certificates.
